Climbing Wall "Monte Balkon" In Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Temporary Closed Because of Safety Issues

03/10/12: Berlin: As the Alpin Club Berlin e.V. section of the german alpine association (DAV) imparts, the climbing wall "Monte Balkon" in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen is currently closed.


Damages caused by freezing led to safety defiencies that made the temporary closing necessary. The Alpin club gave a warning for the use, because there is a serious life danger by down falling parts. A fast reconstruction together with the district Berlin-Lichtenberg is intended.


Since 2003 the climbing facility is surrounded by a fence and can only be entered by a key of the Alpin Club Berlin. Several Emergencies caused by climbing of not-climbers made the protection in line with legal protection requirements mandatory.


Already since 1998 the climbing wall is used and supervised by the Alpin Club Berlin beside of two other climbing walls in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg (Mauerpark) and Berlin-Marzahn.
