Warning: 66.000 Petzl via ferrata sets of the “Scorpio” series are still not inspected but in use and potential dangerous.

05/09/12: Petzl repeats the urgent call for inspection of the via ferrata set “Scorpio”. According to Petzl only 33% of all worldwide sold via ferrata sets have been inspected. That means 66% of the maybe defective via ferrata sets are still not checked.

In 2011 a deadly accident was caused by defective via ferrata set “Scorpio” on a via ferrata in France. Petzl checked the via ferrata set “Scorpio” and immediately started a recall. But until now only 33.000 of the worldwide 100.000 sets could be checked.

The cause for the danger is a missing seam in the fall energy absorber. If the seam in this position is missing the use of the set is a danger to life.

The check of your set should be done by Petzl.

For further information check the information and description in the recall of the May 19th 2011
